Zula Rabikowska is a Polish-British photographer based in London. Zula was born in Poland, grew up in the UK and worked in France, China, South Africa, India, Palestine and the Caribbean. Her practice is influenced by her own experience of immigration and in her work she explores the themes of national identity, displacement and belonging. Zula works with archival images and her own photography to create challenging versions of contemporary realities. She is interested in the ways in which written and vernacular narratives interact with images and uses vernacular photography in her work. She is currently pursuing an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the University of the Arts. Zula also works as freelance photographer and as a photojournalist for SOPA Images in Hong Kong. Zula’s project about the Vietnamese Diaspora in Poland was featured on BBC World Service and published internationally. Zula studied English and French at the University of Warwick for her BA and was later selected for the Yesu Persaud Centre for Caribbean Studies Grant (2013) to carry out independent field research in the changing postcolonial identity of the French Caribbean.
