Cash Prize
The Grand Prize Winner will receive a cash prize of £1,000 GBP from The International Academic Forum (IAFOR) as a contribution towards the completion of a body of photographic work.
IAFOR Grant & Scholarship
The Grand Prize Winner will also receive a grant of up to $500 USD towards airfare and accommodation, and a scholarship to cover full conference registration fees for the IAFOR conference at which their work will be showcased. Joop Swart Masterclass Nomination
The Grand Prize Winner of the IAFOR Documentary Photography Award will receive an automatic nomination for a place on the
Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam*. The final selection process takes place each year in April. The Joop Swart Masterclass has been organised by World Press Photo every year since 1994 and has established itself as one of the most prestigious events of its kind. Its goal is to bring together some of the most experienced individuals in photojournalism with 12 young, promising photographers to share and pass on their knowledge and experience.
*Winner must be 32 years old or younger in the year the masterclass is held.
MediaStorm Multimedia One-Day Workshop
The Grand Prize, Second and Third Place Winners will receive tuition free access to a
MediaStorm Multimedia One-Day Workshop in New York. MediaStorm’s one-day workshops provide participants an overview of multimedia storytelling approaches while engaging participants in discussion about the most appropriate ways to create a multimedia story. Through real world examples, Brian Storm will share tips and techniques to improve reporting, editing and distributing your multimedia project. Please note that attendees are responsible for their own transportation and accommodation during the workshop.
MediaStorm Online Training Videos
The Grand Prize, Second and Third Place Winners, and Honourable Mentions (if applicable), will receive free access to
MediaStorm’s Online Training Videos.

MediaStorm’s award-winning team of producers and cinematographers lead the online training videos with lessons learned from their experience producing multimedia publications and training groups and organisations around the world.
The MediaStorm online training video series now includes five modules. The Reporting and Post-production tracks teach the theory and skills needed to successfully create multimedia stories.
Exhibitions in Japan, Hong Kong, Spain, USA and UK
The IAFOR Documentary Photography Award will also provide a platform for showcasing the winning photographers’ work. The photography of the winners will be exhibited at IAFOR’s international conferences in Japan, Hong Kong, Spain, USA and UK.
THINK, The Academic Platform, IAFOR’s online magazine, will publish the finalists’ work in a special series.
Invitation to an IAFOR Conference
The Grand Prize, Second and Third Place Winners will receive an invitation to an
upcoming IAFOR conference of their choosing in Asia, Europe or North America. This invitation includes a waiver of registration fees, and a reservation for the conference dinner (accommodation and airfare are not included).
